The separation of families is perhaps the most heart-wrenching problem of inter-Korean division. The families were separately instantaneously and their longing for each other was sustained for a life-time. I expressed their longing and the emotion of division as eroding a huge boulder to the point of perforation and embroidered phrases ‘poignant longing’, and ‘Empty life..’. As if symbolizing the extensive bond of connection, I left the embroidery thread extended to keep it wanting more.
